Remember back in 2012 when it was confirmed that the long-awaited and highly anticipated sequel to the hit movie Waiting To Exhale was finally in the works? Then within months of the announcement, the film’s star, Whitney Houston passed away.

Well now, almost four years since her passing, it has been confirmed that the film is back on and fans should expect to see it on the big screen soon. Via Centric:

Co-star Loretta Devine recently confirmed the exciting news during an appearance on “Hollywood Today Live.”

“They’re still writing on it, for all we know…” Devine said, revealing that the deaths of Gregory Hines and Whitney Houston put a major fork in the road for production.

“Everything happened so quick because Gregory passed and then Whitney passed and it’s like you can’t start a movie with two funerals and they were like the key characters and so everything just sort of got scattered after that but I think Terry McMillan is still trying to make it happen,” she explained.

Despite the unfortunate loss of two major characters, the rest of the cast, she says, is all on board.

“Oh God, everyone would be on board. Whitney was even like, the last time I talked to her, ‘Oh God I can’t wait. I’m going to get myself together to do this’, and it just didn’t happen,” she said.

While it’s not clear whether Whitney’s character, Savannah, will be written out of the script or killed off, Devine says there are plenty of actresses that could play the part.

“Oh they have so much new young, great talent so it would be limitless girls that could do it,” Devine said.

  1. B.J. Van Griffin IV says:

Gregory Hines passed in 2003 way before they announced a sequel but definitely his absence would have been felt. And I won’t even speak on trying to push forward without Whitney. Not unless they explain Savannah’s absence because no one else could be her!
