VH1’s ‘Basketball Wives’ & ‘Love & Hip Hop: Family Reunion’ Both Debut with Less Than Explosive Ratings [Details]

Posted February 11, 2021

After a lengthy delay due to the pandemic, VH1‘s ‘Basketball Wives‘ finally premiered this week, on a new night (Tuesday), different from its traditional Monday spot which it’s held since its inception.

That move, and perhaps other reasons, may have negatively impacted the shows standing, as the official ratings for episode 1 have come in–and it’s a far cry from what the hit show is used to.

Ratings: 0.537 Million Viewers

A far cry from the usual million plus viewers it has averaged over the years.

The network also relaunched its other hit franchise, ‘Love & Hip Hop‘ with the premiere of its 6-week special ‘Love & Hip Hop: Family Reunion‘ which sees several cast members from each of the franchises respective cities (New York, Atlanta, Hollywood, and Miami) come together at a resort in California, for a big family soiree.

‘Family Reunion’ premiered on ‘Love & Hip Hop’s usual night (Monday) and prime time spot, but somehow managed to bring just a little fewer views than BBW’s with 0.520 Million viewers.

The dip in ratings could easily be attributed to the long delay in productions returning. Both series were set to premiere in 2020 but were held up due to the pandemic.

VH1 has reportedly struggled to keep their usual Monday night audience engaged while their two biggest franchises were shut down, and had equally suitable shows of that stature to occupy those spots.

Here’s to hoping that both shows pick up in ratings as the weeks go on.
