TLC plans to work on and release their fifth and final album but they need help from their fans to make it happen. The ‘Crazy Sexy Cool’ singers have started a kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the upcoming project. Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas recently revealed why she and Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins have decided to launch the initiative during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“It’s a combination of things. Our manager talked to us about Kickstarter long ago, and maybe he was just planting the seeds back then. Also, I got on Twitter later than most. I already had fans asking, ‘When are you coming back? We need more music!,’” Chilli told THR. “Then once our biopic came out, the requests were just overwhelming. Fans have even been sending ideas for what they want a new album cover to look like—they get so creative. They have so much love for us, and we thought, ‘We gotta do this, and we have to involve the fans.’”

As with all fundraisers, their are perks in store based on monetary donation including TLC nightlights, scrapbooks, sleepovers, a workout session with Chilli, and one on one photo shoots with them.

As far as the actual album, Chilli revealed that they have not begun writing on working on the project yet and says that the project will more than likely not feature archived vocals from Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes for fear of sounding forced but says her spirit will always be present in their music.

“Right now, we’re working on getting the right team together: the right producers, the right writers.”

“Our final album will stay true to the TLC sound, always confronting the real issues and life experiences that we all must face every single day, everywhere. We write music that people relate to…timeless music. No matter the trends, we feel like our music is always relevant.”

“We will continue to make music for EVERYONE, music that’s UNIVERSAL, TOUCHABLE.”

As of time of post the ladies have raised  $55,599 of their $150,000 goal which will go toward writing, producing, studio & engineering cost. What do you think of the idea of the fundraiser for their album? Will fans still be paying for the album once it is ready?
