After weeks of speculation and inside sources revealing that Janet Jackson would be honored at the 2015 BET Awards on Sunday June 28 as their Lifetime Achievement recipient, it was revealed last week that the network decided to go with veteran performer Smokey Robinson.

Many fans took to social media over their frustration with BET over the matter. Although Robinson, a seasoned and well deserving recipient is due the honor for his many decades of service, many felt with the timing of Janet’s upcoming ‘Unbreakable’ tour, album this fall and overall movement the stars were all aligned for what would be a fitting and much needed tribute.

Well now just several days before the show is set to air live from Los Angeles, Page Six has exclusively revealed in an article posted on June 21 that  although she is not getting the Lifetime Achievement, Janet will indeed still be bestowed an honor on the show on Sunday, as she kicks off her musical comeback.

The first stop on Janet Jackson’s comeback tour will be the BET Awards.

A source exclusively revealed to Page Six that the “Rhythm Nation” singer will be honored at the event next Sunday.

The network’s been extremely tight-lipped about the production, but we hear Ciara will be one of the performers who will pay tribute to the reclusive pop star.

“Janet’s known for her dancing, so expect a lot of dancing,” said the source. This will be Jackson’s first major television appearance in three years. She last appeared on the BET Awards show in 2009 to pay homage to brother Michael three days after his death.

Watchers of the BET Awards know that the show is well known for its big surprises and A list collaborations, so its not that far fetched to believe that this will be THE big surprise and reason to watch. We are highly excited!
