Via Billboard, Music icon Smokey Robinson will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th annual BET Awards. He will be joined at the June 28 ceremony by syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner, who will be presented with the Humanitarian Award.

This is the latest in a long list of industry accolades for prolific singer/songwriter Robinson, inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, among other awards. During his tenure as frontman for the Miracles, Robinson penned such classics as “Tears of a Clown” and “Ooo Baby Baby.” A former Motown VP, Robinson also racked up writing credits on hits for theTemptations (“My Girl”), Mary Wells (“My Guy”) and Marvin Gaye (“Ain’t That Peculiar”) as well as for himself (“Cruisin’”). Previous BET Lifetime Achievement honorees include fellow Motown alum Lionel Richie and Charlie Wilson.

The BET Awards, hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson, will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles (June 28, 8 p.m. ET/PT).
