What started as mumbling has now been confirmed and is sure to send superhero nostalgic junkies into a frenzy. Lionsgate has announced that it will release the ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ movie on July 22, 2016. According to reports

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (“X-Men: First Class”) wrote the script for the movie, which will reinvent the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” mythos about a colorful group of ordinary high-school kids who are given extraterrestrial superpowers and interconnecting giant robots to save the world.

Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Allison Shearmur and Roberto Orci are producing. Cast members and a director have yet to be named.

This is not the first time the rangers have made it to the big screen, after launching a super successful television series which became a global phenomenon, the series had a box office adaptation in 1995 and grossed $38,187,431 theatrically in the U.S. and $66,433,194 worldwide, making it a financial success.

If you’re a long time fan like myself, and one who was in the official fan club, this is certainly exciting news. The Rangers have been steadily going strong even after all these years with several incarnations including the current series ‘Power Rangers Super Mega Force’ which airs on Nickelodeon alongside fellow 90’s counterpart ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ which just recently had a reboot and opened up to $65 million debut in the US and Canada its first week.

Just in time for Throwback Thursday, here’s some old clips just for nostalgia.
