Industry Politics: Grammy’s Snub Ledisi For Beyonce on Mahalia Jackson Performance For ‘Selma’ Tribute

Posted February 5, 2015

BeyLedAs we previously told you, this weekend Beyonce is set to perform with Common and John Legend as part of the 57th annual Grammy’s tribute to the movie ‘Selma’.

Well many are saying that the Grammy’s threw some major shade at soul singer Ledisi and snubbed her in place of Beyonce.

For those who don’t know Ledisi plays Mahalia Jackson in the movie and sings “Take my hand precious Lord” (a favorite of Martin Luther King) with rapper Common as the song appears on the soundtrack. Now the move to have Beyonce sing Take my hand with Common instead of Ledisi has a few people up in arms.

Common however spoke to Rolling Stone on his excitement about Sunday’s upcoming performance.

“We’re getting an introduction from the great Beyoncé,” Common revealed. “That’s a whole other level, to have her singing ‘Precious Lord.’ I’m excited.”

Many are outraged at the Grammy’s and citing industry politics as usual for the choice to put Ledisi on the back burner clearly for the bigger star. Ledisi will be in attendance at the show reportedly as she is nominated for ‘Best R&B performance’ for her song ‘Like This’. So why wasn’t Ledisi called upon to sing the song which she blessed for the film? or at least a duet?

If you haven’t heard Ledisi’s version yet check it out below along with some of the commentary via Twitter
