Watch: Janelle Monae, Jidenna & Wondaland Family Invade DC’s Howard Theatre For Secret Show of “The Eephus Tour”

Posted August 17, 2015

Janelle Monae a few weeks ago as we told you HERE would be hitting the road for her eight city trek titled “The Eephus Tour” which would consist of eight secret shows at undisclosed venues and fans could only attend if selected from submitting online.

This weekend she along with her entire Wondaland Records family including Jidenna, Deep Cotton, St. Beauty, and Roman Gianarthur performed at DC’s legendary Howard Theatre on Saturday August 15. I was fortunate enough to have been selected for the secret show only finding out the evening before but was super excited to attend. The last time Janelle came to DC her tour which played at the legendary Lincoln Theater sold out within minutes and I was unable to score tickets, so this was especially exciting for me.

The DC show served as her third stop on the “Eephus” trek following her opening night in Philly on August 12th and New York on the 13th, where she and the crew also hit up the TODAY show. The line literally was wrapped around the building and spanned several blocks and unfortunately the venue reached capacity and not everyone was able to attend.

Janelle opened up the show with her set staple “Let’s Go Crazy” the timeless Prince classic, before letting the rest of the label showcase their material and rock the crowd for over two hours. She later returned to the stage to perform her hits “Tightrope”, “Queen”, “Electric Lady” and her new smash “Yoga”

Meanwhile newcomer Jidenna delivered a dynamic showing of new material including his summer smash “Classic Man” which had the entire theater roaring. The entire crew did a phenomenal job of individual showings before coming together in the end to close the show with their new Black Lives Matter inspired “Hell You Talmbout”.  Get into some of the video below from below.
