DJ Richie Skye Summer Promo 1

You can tell a lot about a DJ when he’s at the height of his musical vortex. The way he controls the crowd and how he understands the precise moment to play the current crowd pleaser. It’s all those things and more that separates the good from the great. When DJ Richie Skye isn’t zipping across the country playing sold out venues you can find him playing host along with this partner in crime, Demond “Mr. Bouvier” Maurice, every 1st Friday of each month at Mova Lounge. There you’ll find him spinning some of your favorite tunes. The man knows his music. Check out our favorite mix master’s top 10 list down below.

Top 10 Albums:
“I chose albums that I can listen to from top to bottom, and then all over again.”
1. Beyoncé “B’Day” – “I love that she made this album in two weeks.  It sounds like she just went into the studio and just rocked out however she wanted.  The results are amazing.”
2. Jay-Z “Life and Times of S. Carter” – “I get nostalgic right here. It reminds me of some great times I had in college!  Big Pimpin is still my theme song.”
3. Sleigh Bells “Treats” – “This shit right here – this goes HARD!  Its like rock meets hip hop and pop and its LOUD.  I love this album and I love seeing them live!”
4. Drake “Nothing Was The Same” – “This is a new joint, but I rock out to this a lot.  I had to put this on the list.  Drake is an amazing artist.”
5. No Doubt “Tragic Kingdom” – “Classic shit right here.  There are so many gems on this album outside of the singles.  Probably their best album to date in my opinion.”
6. New Look “New Look” – “This is an amazing album that I randomly discovered.  Something I listen to at nights when I want to wind down.”
7. Lady Gaga “The Fame” – “Thematically this album is amazing.  I still jam out to Just Dance.  The whole album felt irreverent and fun, but still witty and had substance.”
8. Maxwell “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite” – “I love this album.  Again, I can zone out to this. “
9. Erykah Badu “Baduizm” – “This is one of the first albums I discovered I could listen to and wanted to fall asleep to, its relaxing and chilled out.”
10. Jill Scott “Who Is Jill Scott? – Words and Sounds, Vol. 1″ – “This is my shit right here.  I can totally feel Jill on this one.  The tracks are crazy and her writing is dope.”

Top 10 artists EVERYONE should have on their playlist:
“For this group, I went with artists that aren’t as mainstream perhaps.  Some of them are well known, but I feel that they are either on the verge or underrated.”
1. Sleigh Bells – They have an amazing live show!  It gets really crazy.  And their songs are energetic as hell!
2. Stooshe – This British girl group I randomly discovered – they have an amazing look and sound and a lot of soul infused in their eclectic pop music.
3. B. Slade – A friend of mine, some may know him formerly as Gospel artist Tonex.  This man is a musical genius.  That’s all I can say.
4. PartyNextDoor – Fresh new urban R&B/Hip Hop artist.  He reminds me of the WEEKND a bit, but definitely has his own sound.
5. ASAP Rocky – He just gets me crunk.  Point blank period.
6. JoJo – She’s so underrated and has had so many obstacles on her journey.  She’s so freaking talented.
7. Robin Thicke – I know everyone knows him from his huge discography and Blurred Lines, but he has ALOT of great material.  I always get his albums.
8. Solange – Beautifully gifted songwriter and performer.  I always look forward to new material from her.
9. Etta Bond – Another British beauty – she’s real raw and edgy, and can saaang.  Her music is gritty and urban and I really just rock out to her.
10. Little Mix – This is another British girl group.  They really bring it as far as vocals and their songs are really interesting in terms
