Nike Files Lawsuit Over Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan Shoe’ For Trademark Infringement+LNX Responds [Details]

Posted March 29, 2021

After announcing his controversial ‘Satan Shoe’ release over the weekend, Lil Nas X has come under fire from many, and now Nike is jumping in the conversation.

On Monday, the sneaker giant filed a lawsuit against MSCHF Product Studio, the art collective that collaborated with the rap-singer to produce the new shoe.

The shoe features customized Nike Air Max 97s are individually numbered in red embroidery and contain 66 CCs of red ink, as well as one drop of human blood. All 666 pairs, which retail for $1,018, sold out within a minute after they went on sale today.

The shoes feature Bible scripture Luke 10:18 printed on the side, which refers to Satan’s banishment from heaven. There are also upside-down crosses and a pentagram attached to the laces as well as demonic images within the custom shoe box.

After initially coming out over the weekend revealing that they have nothing to do with the shoe release, and don’t have any relationship with Lil Nas X, now Nike has filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement.

According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, Nike claims the company’s tricking consumers into thinking it approved the Satan-themed shoes, but Nike insists it didn’t authorize it and “is in no way connected with this project.”

Nike claims MSCHF buys the shoes from Nike, then the artists it works with make their own creative modifications before selling them at a higher price.

Nike’s suing for trademark infringement because the famous Swoosh logo is still prominently featured on X’s shoes. It wants damages, and perhaps more importantly for Nas X … Nike wants the judge to block all sales of the Satan Shoe.

Lil Nas X took to Twitter to react to the lawsuit news.
