Fans, friends, and industry peers are reacting to the news that Rapper/Actor DMX has been hospitalized following a reported drug overdose that took place this weekend, and now he is reportedly in grave condition.
The 50-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, N.Y., on Friday night (April 2) after experiencing a heart attack triggered by the OD, according to various outlets including TMZ.
DMX’s representatives confirmed that the rapper is currently hospitalized, but could not provide further details on his condition.
A source tells TMZ that the Yonkers-bred MC — who has a long and well-documented history of drug abuse — has “some brain activity,” while another source says he’s in a “vegetative state.”
In early 2019, DMX was released from a West Virginia prison after serving a one-year sentence for federal tax evasion. Later that year, he canceled a series of scheduled live performances and checked himself into rehab for substance abuse.
DMX most recently appeared alongside Snoop Dogg for their July 2020 ‘Verzuz’ where the rapper confirmed and celebrated his sobriety.
