Lifetime network has announced its newest biopic that is in the works, following the likes of previous ones centered around Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, and Whitney Houston.

It’s been announced that the network is currently prepping a new release that will chronicle legendary Hip Hop pioneers, Salt-N-Pepa. The project is set for release later this year and both ladies will serve as executive producers alongside Queen Latifah.

Salt-N-Pepa will tell the story of nursing students Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, who fell into the world of rap and hip hop, after recording for a friend’s school project.
One of the first all-female rap groups, the series will look at the pair who were unafraid to talk about sex and share their thoughts on men. The show will feature their greatest hits including “Let’s Talk About Sex”, “What a Man”, “Shoop” and “Push It”. It will be exec produced by Cheryl James, Sandra Denton and Jesse Collins as well as Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere from Flavor Unit. Written by Abdul Williams with Andy Horne, Dionne Harmon and James “Jimmy” Maynes as co-exec producer.

Additionally, Variety has confirmed that the project will be a multi night miniseries.

The miniseries revolves around Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton as they enter the world of hip hop and rap. The miniseries will incorporate the duo’s hits including “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “What a Man” and “Shoop.”

Pepa took to social media this evening to confirm the news.

SNP are also set to star in their new BET reality series ‘Ladies Night‘ alongside SWV, which will begin airing in April.

No word on when to expect the biopic film or casting details just yet but we are surely excited. Stay tuned.
