Kelly Rowland Celebrates The 20th Anniversary of Destiny’s Child’s ‘The Writings on The Wall’ Album [Videos]

Posted July 29, 2019

“Can you pay my bills? Can you pay my telephone bills? Can you pay my automo-bills? If you did, then maybe we could chill. I don’t think you do, so you and me are through.”

LeToya Luckett, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and Beyonce struck gold (and platinum) when they released their smash single ‘Bills, Bills, Bills‘ (the first of many hits to come) in the summer of 1999 (June 14).

Just a month later (July 27) Destiny’s Child would release their second studio album ‘The Writings on The Wall‘ which housed ‘Bills’ as well as other future hits ‘Bug a Boo,’ ‘Say My Name‘ and the club hit ‘Jumpin, Jumpin‘ with the help of songwriters/producers such as Missy Elliott, She’kspere, Kandi Burruss, Rodney Jerkins and more.

The album would become a huge success for the R&B group and went on to rack up Grammy nominations, sell over 6 million copies and would propel the group into super stardom (specifically following the messy and highly publicized departure of LeToya and LaTavia; who would ultimately be replaced by Michelle Williams).

Fast forward, this past weekend saw the iconic album reach it’s 20th birthday or anniversary since it’s release. Fans took to social media to share their fave tracks and moments from the album and era. Kelly Rowland herself took to Instagram on Monday night to also celebrate their work with a series of clips of her singing some of her lines from the songs from the album

The official DC Instagram page also joined in on the celebration.
