Last year there were unconfirmed reports that Missy Elliott was set to receive the highly coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2018 MTV VMAs.

Fans were sent into a frenzy when it was announced after the fact that the reports were incorrect and that Jennifer Lopez was the actual recipient for the year. Missy even reacted to the news at that time and confirmed she had not been contacted by MTV to receive the honor.

Well the outcry from fans who felt that MTV had overlooked Missy year after year for artist who came out after her– and that she was long overdue the honor, must have really stuck with producers over at MTV. It was just announced on Monday (Aug 12) that the iconic performer will officially receive the award at this years ceremony.
