A lot of our 90’s fave shows and movies are coming back to the small and big screens to give longtime fans some good ol’ nostalgia that they have been longing for. Following the Netflix reboot of Full House now titled Fuller House, which was just renewed for a season 2 after just a week from its debut, could another 90’s family sitcom be returning?
Now that Countess Vaughn and Brandy recently made nice after over a decade of not speaking, could there be a Moesha reunion/reboot in the works? If it’s up to their former cast mate Sharisse “Shar” Jackson, it would be a big fat yes.
The mom of four is currently starring on Lifetime’s The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition with daughter Cassie and she recently sat down with Wetpaint to discuss the show, but more specifically her thoughts on a Moesha reunion. Get into the excerpts below.
Speaking of awesome, another amazing moment in the actress’ life this year was celebrating the 20th anniversary of Moesha’s premiere this January. We asked what she thought of the show’s longevity and simply put, she thought it was “bonkers.”
She continued, “I think Moesha was amazing for the time that it came out and I think it’s still amazing today. And the fact that new kids get to watch this show — and they’re watching it for the first time, like it’s brand new … I have more people calling me ‘Niecy’ now that I’ve had in my entire life and we’re 20 years later. I think it’s bonkers, and I love it,” she said.
As for star Brandy’s thoughts on being open to a Fuller House-esque Netflix reboot, Shar revealed she loved the idea, as long as it incorporates actors Lamont Bentley (who played Hakeem) and Yvette Wilson (who portrayed Andell) — who died in 2005 and 2012, respectively — in a respectful way.
“I think if we could figure out a very intelligent, beautiful way to kinda close out that chapter, I would be totally down to do it … it’s just kinda bittersweet though because a lot of our cast members are no longer here … To me, that’s the biggest thing,” she said.
However, she added, “if it could be done in a beautiful way that doesn’t make me cry, number one, [and] celebrates those people, then I’d be totally down to do it.”
As for a way to bring the show back, she speculated the show could return from the season-turned-series finale pregnancy cliffhanger by making titular character Moesha pregnant with boyfriend Hakeem’s kid.
“Now that I’m thinking about it, that can be a kinda cool way to comeback and do a reboot… meeting her and Hakeem’s kid,” she said.
Would you be here for a Moesha reboot?? As a mega Brandy AND Mo to the E to the fan, I vote YES!!!
