Big Tigger Announces The Return of ‘Rap City’ To BET Tonight Ahead of 2021 Hip Hop Awards [Video]

Posted October 5, 2021

Following word that Donnie Simpson has brought back his beloved series ‘Video Soul’ as of last week, now another classic music video show is coming back.

Radio and TV personality, Big Tigger took to social media last week to also announce that his classic BET show ‘Rap City‘ was coming back to the network.

“This is not a drill,” Tigger captioned an Instagram picture of him on the revamped set. “This is not a throwback.” BET also released a short teaser that affirmed that Rap City ’21 will be returning.

‘Rap City’ and ‘Rap City: Tha Basement’ had many hosts during its storied run on BET.

Among notable previous hosts of the show was Chris Thomas (the first host of the show from 1989–1991). Throughout his run, Thomas was also known as “The Mayor of Rap City.” Other hosts included Hans Dobson aka Prime (1989–1993), Prince Dejour (1991–1994), Joe Clair (1994–1999), Leslie Segar (a.k.a. Big Lez) (1994–1999), Tigger (1999–2005), Mad Linx (2005–2006), J-Nicks (2005–2006) and Q-45 (2006–2008).

Tigger is one of the most recognized of those many personalities of the series and recently launched his new show with Rapsody on REVOLT called ‘Off Top’ which also incorporates a freestyle booth feel similar to ‘Rap City: Tha Basement.’ It makes perfect sense for him to be the one to usher the series back to the network.

The show ran from August 1989 to November 2008 after being canceled by BET.

Tigger took back to IG to release a fresh teaser revealing that ‘Rap City’ would premiere tonight at 8 pm EST ahead of the BET 2021 Hip Hop Awards.
